The study of “The factors influencing the behavior of Premarital Sex among
Thai Adolescences in” was aimed at achieving tree objectives :
1) to study the characteristics of the population, economy, and society of premarital adolescences in Songkhla,
2) to study the behavior of premarital sex among Thai adolescences in Songkhla, and
3) to study the factors influencing the behavior of premarital sex among Thai adolescences in Songkhla.
The case study used included the 409 adolescences at the age between 12-24 years old who stay in Songkhla. The instrument used for data collection was a questionnaire. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistic including frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. The inferential statistic used in this study was the chi-square test. The analysis was put the emphasis on gender category (male-female) and area category (rural-urban)
The result of this study revealed that most of the adolescences in both the rural and urban areas share some similar characteristics in population, economy, and society : namely, most of them are female, they are Buddhist, they stay with their parents, their parents stay together, their fathers are general workers, they are the oldest son/daughters in their family, they have three sisters/ brothers, they are studying, and they have their sufficient income each month. For the different characteristics, it was found the age of most adolescences in the urban areas ranges from 20 to 24, their mothers are farmers, and they earned a bachelor’s degree. Most of the adolescences in the rural areas, on the contrary, share some similar characteristics in that their age’s range is from 12 to 15, their mothers are workers, and their highest education is at junior high school (Matthayom3) . It was, too, found that concerning the social psychology factors related to the knowledge of reproductive health, the average of the adolescence’ knowledge is 10.27 which is at the medium level and the adolescence in the rural areas have more reproductive health’s knowledge than that of those who are in the rural areas. The average liberalistic attitudes of the adolescence is 25.73 which is at the medium level and the adolescence both in the urban and rural areas are at the same level. Concerning their premarital sex behavior, it was revealed that in every age’s group, 34.3% of the adolescence experienced premarital sex. Categorized according to the age’s group, the result of this study was found that the higher ratio according to their age’s ranges. The ratio was found in the adolescence staying both in the urban and rural areas. As well, the adolescence in the urban areas have sexual intercourse in the two higher ratio than that of those who are in the rural areas. As for their sex behavior according to the profoundly continuous degree started from going alone with their boyfriends/girlfriends, holding in their boyfriends/girlfriends’ hands, holding in their boyfriends/girlfriends’ arms, hugging and kissing their boyfriends/girlfriends, touching their boyfriends/girlfriends’ reproductive organs, satisfying their boyfriends/girlfriends’ lusts, and having sexual intercourse with their boyfriends/girlfriends respectively, every age’s group of the adolescence have the lower ratio according to the profundity of the respective behavior of the adolescence’ premarital sex in Songkhal, it was shown that the population’s characteristics ; which are gender, age, the place for living, jobs, the adequate income, and educational level, are related to the behavior of the adolescence’ premarital sex and it was significantly different at .01. As for the order of being daughters/sons, the relation was found only in the adolescence in the urban areas. The relation of the number o brothers/sisters was found only in the adolescence in the rural areas. The liberalistic attitudes are related to the behavior of the adolescence’ premarital sex and it was found to be significantly different at .05 only in the urban areas.
The suggested ways for putting into practice are that 1) way to resolve the problems of adolescence’ sex behaviors should be put the emphasis to the adolescences 2) the prevention and the resolve should be specially put the emphasis to the adolescence in the highly risky group who have premarital sex. Such the adolescence in the group are those who don’t stay with their parents, those who are male, and those who don’t further studies after finishing their elementary schools or secondary schools.
